Is electrolysis a new procedure?
Electrolysis has been used for a long time. It was first used in 1875 in the USA by Dr Charles E Michel for treating in-growing eyelashes.
What can I do if there isn't an appointment available on the date and time I want one?

Do I have to have a consultation?
Yes. It is important that I clinically assess your concerns thoroughly before you commence any procedure.
What happens at a consultation?
A consultation is carried out to establish whether the treatment would be suitable for you. It would include:
§ Getting to know one another
§ Obtaining your contact information
§ Obtaining your medical history (past and present) and your doctor’s contact details
§ Discussing any previous electrolysis treatments you have received
§ Finding out which methods of hair removal you are using and have used in the past
§ Your skin/hair being assessed
§ A short procedure being carried out (if no contra-indications have been found)
§ An aftercare product being provided so you can take it with you and apply it at home
How does electrolysis work for hair removal?
A tiny probe, the size of a hair, is placed carefully into the hair follicle
The probe is used to conduct a very low level current into the growing part of the hair follicle
The current disables the growing part of the follicle
Over time, with repeated treatments, the follicle will no longer be able to produce hair

What should I do before having an electrolysis procedure?
In order to achieve the best results and to make the process as easy as possible, please:
§ Drink lots of water on the day before your treatment and on the day of your treatment so you stay hydrated. The more hydrated your skin is, the easier it makes insertions into the hair follicles
§ Cleanse and lightly exfoliate your skin once in the week prior to your appointment
§ Moisturise daily
§ Avoid booking appointments before or during your menstruation, as your body may be more sensitive at this time
§ For hair removal procedures, leave a few millimetres of hair growth so I have something to work with
§ Wait until your suntan has gone before booking an appointment, as I need to see your skin’s natural colour to check how it is responding to the procedure

What shouldn’t I do before having an electrolysis procedure?
§ Do not go in the sun or go on sunbeds for at least 48 hours before your electrolysis session to avoid your blood vessels dilating
§ For hair removal procedures, do not bleach the hairs that you are going to have treated
§ Do not eat chocolate, drink alcohol or caffeinated drinks for at least 24 hours before your treatment as they will dehydrate your skin
§ Do not do any strenuous activities within a few hours of your treatment, as sweating can affect the procedure
§ If the hair you want removing is in your armpits, do not apply deodorants/antiperspirants as they may clog/shrink pores, making them harder to work with
§ Do not wear face make-up to attend your appointment
§ Do not wear fake tan in the area to be treated
Can I purchase products to use at home?
Yes. Sterex products are available for you to purchase for the ongoing care of your skin.
As part of your consultation, a complimentary product such as Witch Hazel or Aloe Vera will be provided for you to use at home.
Can I bring children/other people to the appointment?
Please attend the appointment by yourself.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the treatments I provide I am unable to permit children at the clinic. I am only permitted to treat clients who are 18 years old and above.
How old must someone be to be treated?
People under the age of 18 are classed as minors i.e. I am unable to treat them until they are 18 years old.
Do you accept walk-ins?
As a busy clinic, I am unable to accommodate walk-in appointments. Appointments can be booked online via www.theremedyclinic.co.uk.
Do I need to book early?
It is never too early to book. Booking in advance gives you a better chance of securing your preferred date and time.
Will I receive a reminder prior to my appointment?
Yes, appointment reminders are sent out to clients. You can manage your bookings through your online account.
What if I am running late?
If you are delayed by a few minutes, I will do my best to accommodate you. If there is insufficient time remaining to complete your treatment, as a courtesy to the next client, your treatment will end at the originally-scheduled time.
Your appointment may need to be rescheduled and the cancellation policy will apply.
What should I do after having an electrolysis procedure?
· Apply soothing gel to treated areas for 48 hours or until healing has taken place. Apply it with clean cotton wool rather than using your fingers
· Avoid touching, scratching or picking any scabs that form
· Follow the aftercare instructions you have been given
· Make an note of how well your skin is healing after having a procedure, so future procedures can be modified, if necessary

What shouldn’t I do after having an electrolysis procedure?
The following conditions apply to the 24 to 48 hours after your electrolysis treatment:
· Do not touch the treated skin as you may transfer germs to it
· Do not apply soap on the treated skin
· Do not apply make-up to the treated skin
· Do not apply perfumed products to the treated skin
· Do not wear tight clothing over the treated skin
· Do not sunbathe, use a sunbed, sauna, steam bath, jacuzzi or hot tub or similar for 24-48 hours
· Do not take hot baths or showers
· Do not go swimming
How will my skin feel after having an electrolysis procedure?
You may experience a sensation like having sunburn.

Can I give blood before/after having an electrolysis procedure?
Sterile equipment is used for electrolysis procedures. Yes you can give blood, however, some donation centres may ask you to wait for up to 12 months after your last electrolysis procedure before donating. It is best to check directly with your centre.
Are there any skin conditions that mean I cannot have electrolysis?
Electrolysis can only be carried out on healthy skin. Active skin conditions such as cold sores, eczema, or acne must heal before treatment. Some conditions, including vitiligo, may prevent treatment entirely. I will assess the area and may request written consent from your doctor if needed.
Can I have electrolysis when I am pregnant?
I do not offer electrolysis to people who are pregnant. During pregnancy, changes in secretion of hormones associated with the development of the foetus sometimes creates an imbalance which may result in a thickening of vellus hair (soft, downy hair). The hair growth reverts back to normal as hormone secretions normalise after pregnancy.
Can I have electrolysis if I have a pacemaker?
Electrolysis is not provided at the clinic for clients with pacemakers due to the electrical current used.
Can I have electrolysis if I have dental fillings or braces?
Yes. However, the blend method of electrolysis may create a temporary metallic taste in your mouth. In this case, the short wave diathermy method of electrolysis is used.
How soon after treatment can I swim or exercise?
Avoid swimming pools for 48 hours to prevent the possibility of infection. Once the skin has returned to normal i.e. the skin does not feel hot, there isn't any redness, sorness or swelling, you can resume your usual routine.
Can I have electrolysis before going on holiday?
Usually yes, provided the skin has fully healed before sun exposure. I will assess the area and consider factors such as hair density and your medical history. People who smoke and/or are diabetic may heal more slowly.
Is electrolysis safe?
Yes. Electrolysis has been used safely since 1875 and continues to evolve with modern, comfortable, and effective technology. It can be used alone or alongside laser/IPL for comprehensive hair management.
Are there any side effects?
When performed by a trained electrologist, electrolysis is very safe.
You will receive a consultation to review your medical history and you will be given written aftercare instructions that explain how you can minimise any reaction to the procedure such as temporary redness to the skin.
A soothing gel is applied after treatment to aid healing.
Does electrolysis hurt?
Most people experience mild discomfort - often described as heat, tingling, or a slight sting. Sensitivity varies based on each person's pain threshold, the area treated, hair type, skin sensitivity, and the method used. Any discomfort is brief and the results are long‑lasting. I have had clients who are so relaxed throughout the procedure that they have fallen asleep.
How long does a procedure take?
Appointment lengths last between 15 minutes to 60 minutes, depending on the area being worked on, how your skin reacts, and your available time. An individual treatment plan will be created that is specific to you - this will be discussed during your consultation.
How many procedures will I need?
This varies by individual. It depends on which area of the face/body is being treated and how dense the hair growth is in the area. A large area such as a chest will take more hours to treat than a small area such as a chin.
Each person's skin will react differently to the procedure. Some people's skin is very sensitive so it can only be worked on for short amounts of time. Another person's skin will not react to the procedure at all. It also depends on how you experiences the discomfort of having the procedure, and whether you can stay still for a period of time.
Electrolysis is a progressive treatment. Each hair must be treated repeatedly and gently to weaken it without damaging the skin. I will outline a realistic plan during your consultation.
How will my skin look afterwards?
Temporary redness or sensitivity is normal and usually settles within 24 to 48 hours, often it disappears far more quickly. Advanced cosmetic procedures (blemish removal) may cause different short‑term changes as the area heals. Aftercare products are recommended to support recovery.
How does electrolysis compare to laser (hair removal)?
Both methods reduce unwanted hair, but electrolysis is the only proven PERMANENT solution (reference: Sterex International Limited).
Laser targets pigment, so white or very light hair cannot be treated effectively by lasers. Electrolysis works on all hair colours.
Hormonal hair growth may also require electrolysis for complete results.
When will I see results (hair removal)?
Results depend on your hair growth cycle, the area treated, and your skin’s response. I will create a plan that balances speed with long‑term effectiveness.
Yes this type of hair growth can be treated by electrolysis. Hypertrichosis is hormone-stimulated hair growth which is considered abnormal for someone's age, gender and race. It is usually seen as:
Strong terminal hair growth on the chin or face of females
Strong terminal hair growth on the back of females
Strong terminal growth on the breast or chest of females
Hair growth on the abdomen of females
Yes this type of hair growth can be treated by electrolysis.
Hirsutism refers to complete male pattern hair growth on females which is hormonally stimulated. Male pattern hair growth is displayed as facial hair, in a beard shape, which is sometimes associated with chest hair and male pattern baldness.
Can blue veins be treated?
Electrolysis can be used to treat red veins on your face and body. Purple/blue veins indicate that damaged capillaries lie deeper beneath the skin - they cannot be treated by electrolysis.

Cash and most major cards are accepted.
A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking an appointment - the deposit will be taken off the total cost of the procedure. A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling - failure to provide this notice will result in you losing your deposit, and the remainder of the appointment cost must be paid in full. If you miss an appointment, you will be charged the full cost of the appointment.
I will endeavour to ensure that your appointment runs to time and will try to keep you informed of any delays. Should I have to cancel or postpone your appointment at short notice, I will make every effort to contact you in advance. Prior to your appointment I will inform you of any preparation required in advance of your treatment. Failure to follow the guidelines may result in cancellation of your appointment, reduced treatment time, or additional fees being charged.

Please check what you will receive as part of the service, the standard of products being used and the cleaning/sterilisation procedures of the clinic(s) you are thinking of visiting, so you have a clear idea of what you are paying for.
